TRANSITION TO WDFPF

Change information posts series

2024 is the most exciting year for APU, as it moves into a new era of Powerlifting in Australia.

The World Drug Free Powerlifting Federation has been a big part of the integrity of the Drug free Sport of Powerlifting for over 30 years, being an important part of our sport during the senate enquiry which occurred around the late 80s - early 90s.

The WDFPF rules of performance are similar to the previous APU rules that were applied, with some small and subtle differences.

Over the next week, we will be sharing the rules and policies, and creating a page for all lifters, referees and coaches to make themselves familiar with these. These rules and policies will apply to APU moving forward.

Records and Results

We will endeavour to maintain records in each category and up to date results, however we do need assistance with volunteers to be able to achieve this.

Please reach out to us if you are wanting to help us in results management and records. https://www.powerlifting.org.au/let-s-get-involved-

On the day an athlete turns 14 years of age, they can be considered for National team selection and participate at WDFPF World Championships or WDFPF Regional Championships.

Age Categories are determined by the person’s birthday, not the person's birth year. i.e: A Masters 1 (M1) athlete is eligible to remain a M1 athlete until the day before their 45th birthday. On the day they turn 45, they are eligible to be M2.

  • (Y) Youth and categories in 2-year increments (APU events only).
  • (T) Teenage categories in 2-year increments.
  • (SR) Senior category from 14-years upwards and unlimited (Ie: Open)
  • (JR) Junior a 4-year age category from 20 years to 23 years.
